Crusius was chaplain of the 143rd Infantry, 36th Division, in France in World War I.
After the war, he was pastor of the Lake View Congregational Church, Chicago, Illinois (later merged with the Belden Avenue Presbyterian Church), and at the Seminary Avenue Federated Church, Chicago. He also served as a Boy Scout troop committee member for 37 years.
