Biography

Vernon was the son of Rev­er­end Sam­uel Crow­ther-Bey­non, rec­tor of Bec­ken­ham, Kent, and hus­band of Ma­ry Gif­fard (1856–1952, mar­ried Prince Ed­ward Is­land, Ca­na­da).

He was edu­cat­ed at Well­ing­ton and Tri­ni­ty Col­lege, Cam­bridge, and was then called to the bar.

He lived for ma­ny years in Rut­land, East Mid­lands, where he was sec­re­tary for the So­cie­ty of An­ti­quar­ies for Rut­land.

He had a spe­cial in­ter­est in old coins, and served for a num­ber of years on the Coun­cil of the Brit­ish and Roy­al Nu­mis­ma­tic So­cie­ties.
