William was the son of Juliana Gibson-Moss and William Crousaz, a drapery business owner in St. Peter Port. William the younger eventually took over the family firm.
He belonged to the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry, and was an avid shooter, winning gold medals in 1882, 1884, 1885, 1886, and 1888.
