Biography

Laura was the daugh­ter of John Ja­cob Scher­er and Ka­ther­ine Kill­in­ger, and wife of Bas­com Eu­gene Co­pen­ha­ver.

She was a pro­fess­or of Eng­lish Li­te­ra­ture at Ma­ri­on Col­lege, which her fa­ther found­ed and where her sis­ter May was dean of wo­men.

She wrote a num­ber of hymns and ma­ga­zine ar­ti­cles, and served as chair­man of the edu­ca­tion com­mit­tee of the Wo­man’s Mis­sion­ary So­cie­ty of the Unit­ed Lu­ther­an Church.
