Cook was a teacher, and evidently lived in the New York City area in the 1860s.
The only place we’ve seen Cook’s birth and death years is in The Baptist Standard Hymnal, edited by Mrs. A. M. Townsend (Nashville, Tennessee: Sunday School Publishing Board, National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., 1924), page 292.
Cook was born the year former American president Thomas Jefferson died, which might be why his parents named him as they did.
