Biography

Howard was the son of Eli­sha Co­no­ver and Eli­za­beth Van Me­ter.

He at­tend­ed Pen­ning­ton Se­mi­na­ry, Pen­ning­ton, New Jer­sey, and Dick­in­son Col­lege, Car­lisle, Penn­syl­van­ia.

He be­came a Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal min­is­ter in 1874, and in his lat­er years, joined the Hymn Writ­ers’ and Com­po­sers’ So­cie­ty in New York Ci­ty.
