Feb­ru­a­ry 21, 1817, Bal­ly­cas­tle, Ire­land.

Son of Cap­tain John Clyne of the Roy­al Scots Re­gi­ment, Nor­val grad­u­at­ed MA from Mar­is­chal Coll­ege, Un­i­ver­si­ty of Aber­deen. In 1846, he be­came a mem­ber of the So­ci­e­ty of Ad­vo­cates in Ab­er­deen. He served on the Com­mit­tee which com­piled the draft Hym­nal for the Scot­tish Church, 1857. His other works in­clude:
