Daughter of Dr. Charles Koon, Myrtle attended the Detroit Training School of Elocution and English Literature. She founded and directed the Grand Rapids School of Elocution (1886-90). She was the society editor and music critic for the Grand Rapids Evening Press for 12 years, and composed a body of piano music. Her works include:
