Son of William Chambers, Isaiah was educated at Dickinson Seminary, Lafayette, and the Theological College in New York. Ordained a Presbyterian minister, his first pastorate was in Merchantville, New Jersey, where he remained 27 years. He then moved to Lewes, Delaware, where he preached several years before resigning due to ill health. He then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later to Palmyra, New Jersey.
