Poem

Inasmuch

We cannot see Thy face, Lord;
We cannot touch Thy hand;
The mystery of Thy being
We do not understand;
Yet beside us daily
Needy ones there be;
In succoring the helpless
We are helping Thee.

Thou art Prince of princes;
Thou art Lord of all;
Angels haste through Heaven
Obedient to Thy call.
With thy sighing children
Must our errands be;
In serving the neglected
We are serving Thee.

Languishing in prison,
Famishing for bread,
Sicknesses enduring,
Mourning for the dead,
Of the world forsaken,
Thy brethren we see;
In keeping watch with sorrow,
We minister to Thee.
