Biography

Butcher worked ini­tial­ly as a lin­en drap­er. Af­ter train­ing for the Uni­ta­ri­an min­is­try, he served at the Lea­ther Lane Cha­pel, Hol­born (1789) and Sid­bu­ry Vale, Sid­mouth (1798). He wrote 161 hymns, few of which are in mo­dern hym­nals.
