Draper worked in­i­tial­ly as a lin­en drap­er. Aft­er train­ing for the Un­i­tar­i­an min­is­try, he served at the Lea­ther Lane Cha­­pel, Hol­born (1789) and Sid­bu­ry Vale, Sid­mouth (1798). He wrote 161 hymns, few of which are in mod­ern hymn­als. His works in­clude:
