Biography

George was the son of Ho­ra­tio S. Bur­dett and Mel­vi­na Mar­tin, and hus­band of El­len S. Strong of Brook­line, Mas­sa­chu­setts (mar­ried 1887).

He gra­du­at­ed from Phill­ips Ex­eter Aca­de­my, Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1877, and from Har­vard Col­lege in 1881 (AB, sum­ma cum laude).

An or­gan­ist, he com­posed or­gan works, pi­ano piec­es, and an­thems, and was a fre­quent con­trib­ut­or to mu­sic­al pe­ri­odi­cals.

Burdett was a found­ing mem­ber of the Am­er­ican Guild of Or­gan­ists, and a trust­ee of the New Eng­land Con­ser­va­tory of Mu­sic
