Cedric was the son of John Bucknall and Elizabeth Bassett, and husband of Abbie Cecilia Frye (married 1873, West Hackney, London).
He was a pupil of William Monk, and became his assistant in 1868. He served as organist of Southwell Minster, Nottinghamshire (1872), and All Saints, Clifton (1876). He received his MusB degree from Oxford in 1878.
