Educated at Mans­field Coll­ege, Ox­ford, Brooks was a min­is­ter of the Unit­ed Re­formed Church, and served as pro­duc­er of the religious broad­casting de­part­ment for the Bri­tish Broad­cast­ing Cor­po­ra­tion.
