The youngest of eleven children, Lucy was the daughter of piano maker Henry Fowler Broadwood and Juliana Maria Birch, and great granddaughter of John Broadwood, founder of Broadwood and Sons, piano manufacturers.
She is remembered as an English-Scottish folksong collector and researcher in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
