Brininstool earned a business degree, and 1895 in moved with his wife to Los Angeles. He first worked as a journalist, but later became a freelancer, writing poetry, and publishing articles in Hunter-Trader, Sunset, Frontier Times, Outdoor Life, Winners of the West, and other magazines.
