Bridaine was educated at the Jesuit college of Avignon, and the Seminary of the Royal Missions of St. Charles of the Cross. He was famous as an orator, with a very unconventional, spontaneous preaching style. In his day, he was one of the best known men in France, and the Catholic Encyclopedia has a detailed article on him. His Cantiques Spirituels were published in 47 editions.
