Bridaine was educated at the Jesuit college of Avi­gnon, and the Seminary of the Royal Missions of St. Charles of the Cross. He was famous as an orator, with a very unconventional, spontaneous preaching style. In his day, he was one of the best known men in France, and the Catholic Encyclopedia has a detailed article on him. His Can­tiques Spir­it­u­els were published in 47 editions.
