Died: Ja­nu­ary 12, 1862, Ro­ther­ham, York­shire, Eng­land.

Biography

Brettell was the son of a Uni­ta­ri­an min­is­ter.

In 1814, he be­came pas­tor of a Uni­ta­ri­an con­gre­ga­tion at Cock­ey Moor (now Ains­worth), Bol­ton, Lan­ca­shire.

In 1816, he be­came pas­tor of a con­gre­ga­tion in Ro­ther­ham, York­shire, where he stayed un­til re­tir­ing in 1859.

In ad­di­tion to mi­nor piec­es in news­pa­pers, Bret­tell con­trib­uted 16 hymns to John Rel­ly Beard’s Col­lect­ion of Hymns for Pub­lic and Pri­vate Wor­ship (Lon­don: John Green, 1837).
