Biography

Birgitte was the daugh­ter of roy­al hunt­ing of­fi­cial Jens Jo­han­sen and Dor­the Hen­riks­dat­ter. She mar­ried twice: to for­est man­ag­er Her­man Mi­chel­sen Herz (1763), and to cus­toms in­spect­or and ju­di­cial ad­vis­er Hans Boye (1778).

Works

As a hym­nist, she was in­volved with Guld­bergs og Har­boes Psal­me­bog (Ove Guld­berg’s and Lud­vig Har­boe’s Psal­ter), to which she con­trib­ut­ed 146 hymns.

She wrote a num­ber of plays, in­clud­ing Me­li­certe (1780) and Gorm den gamle, et he­ro­isk Sørgespil (Gorm the Old: A He­ro­ic Tra­ge­dy, 1781).

She al­so pro­duced na­tion­al dra­ma­tic writ­ing.
