Biography

Lucy was the daugh­ter of Sal­va­tion Ar­my (SA) found­er Will­iam Booth, and wife of Ema­nu­el Da­ni­el Hell­berg.

At age 16, Lu­cy and her sis­ter Em­ma went to In­dia to work with the SA there. Lu­cy and her hus­band Ema­nu­el rose through the ranks to joint­ly com­mand the In­di­an Ter­ri­to­ry. She and Ema­nu­el took the names Ru­ha­ni and Raj-Singh, re­spec­tive­ly.

They were ap­point­ed to France and Swit­zer­land in 1896. Af­ter Ema­nu­el died in 1909, Lu­cy be­came ter­ri­to­ri­al com­man­der for Den­mark, Nor­way, and South Am­er­ica. She re­tired in 1934.
