Evangeline C. Booth (1865-1950)

Daughter of Salvation Army (SA) founders William and Catherine Booth, Evangeline became a full fledged SA member at age 15, as she proudly donned the uniform of an SA sergeant. However, she was known to also wear the same tattered clothes as the flower girls she often ministered to at Piccadilly Circus. In 1869, Booth traveled to Canada and America, and in 1904, was assigned as national commander in America, where she served three decades. She was an SA general 1934-9. She never married, but did adopt and raise four children. Her musical and dramatic abilities led to comparisons with Sarah Bernhardt.
