Biography

Bolton was a Me­tho­dist min­is­ter’s daugh­ter.

She gra­du­at­ed from the Pre­pa­ra­to­ry School of North­west­ern Uni­ver­si­ty, Ev­an­ston, Il­li­nois, in June 1883.

She worked as a cor­res­pon­dent for the Chi­ca­go Dai­ly In­ter-Ocean (pre­de­ces­sor to the Chi­ca­go Trib­une).

She joined the Se­venth-day Ad­ven­tists (SDA) in 1885. Sent by her pa­per to co­ver an SDA camp meet­ing in Spring­field, Il­li­nois in 1887, she there met El­len G. White, one of the co-found­ers of that de­no­mi­na­tion. She worked as White’s as­sist­ant, 1887–90.
