Biography

George was the son of Charles S. Boker and Lydia S. Boker, and husband of Julia Mandeville Riggs.

He enrolled at Princeton University in 1840. While there he helped found, and was first editor of, the college literary magazine, the Nassau Monthly (later renamed the Nassau Lit).

In 1871, President Ulysses S. Grant made him the American minister to Constantinople (now Istanbul), Turkey. He later served as a diplomat in Russia.
