Biography

Anders was the son of Bärs Olof Olsson and Karin Persdotter, and husband of Uma Bothilda Lagerlund (married 1880).

He started his career teaching in his home town, but began to feel called to the ministry after recovering from typhoid fever.

He studied at Fjellstedt’s school for missionary and ministry work in Uppsala, and graduated in 1880.

After a short teaching stint at a mission school in Stockholm, he moved to America to a teaching job at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.

He taught Greek, German, Swedish, Latin, and philosophy and religion at Augustana, and also worked at the Augustana Book Concern. There he translated books and three hymnals, wrote a book in Swedish to learn ABC’s, and edited a freshman text called Notes on Greek Grammar.

However, he was in poor health, and was unable to take an offered position as Augustana vice president. Dying young, he left a wife and 12 children.
