Son of barrister G. W. Bell, Maurice graduated from Hertford College, Oxford (BA 1884, MA 1887). He was ordained a deacon in 1885, priest in 1886, and in 1904 became Vicar of St. Mark, Regent’s Park, London. He contributed three translations and an original hymn to The English Hymnal in 1906.
