Cyrus was the son of George Bartol and Anna Given Bartol, and husband of Elizabeth H. Howard Bartol. He graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine (1832); Harvard Divinity School (1835); and Harvard College (DD 1859). He became co-pastor with Charles Lowell at the West Church in Boston, Massachusetts, March 1, 1837. After Lowell’s death in 1861, he became sole pastor there. His works include:
