Biography

In the se­cu­lar world, Bar­na­by is best re­mem­bered as Chief Con­struc­tor (na­val ar­chi­tect) of Bri­tain’s Roy­al Na­vy (1872–85).

He was made a Com­pan­ion of the Or­der of the Bath in 1876 and a Knight Com­mand­er of the Or­der of the Bath in 1885, the year he re­tired be­cause of ill health.

Barnaby was in­ter­est­ed in Chris­tian edu­ca­tion for ma­ny years. He was su­per­in­ten­dent of the Bap­tist Sun­day School in Lee, Kent, and wrote se­ver­al hymns for use there.
