Biography

William was the son of Eli­sha Bal­lan­tine and Bet­sey Ann Wat­kins.

He was a Cong­re­ga­tion­al min­is­ter, edu­cat­or and New Tes­ta­ment schol­ar. He taught at the Young Men’s Chris­tian As­so­cia­tion College, Spring­field, Mas­sa­chu­setts, and was pre­si­dent of Ober­lin Col­lege, Ohio (1891–96).
