Ballantine was a Cong­re­ga­tion­al minister, educator and New Testament schol­ar. He taught at the Young Men’s Christ­ian Association College, Spring­field, Mas­sa­chu­setts, and was president of Ober­lin College, Ohio (1891–96). His works include:
