Biography

Henry was the son of James Bak­er, Chan­cel­lor of the Dio­cese of Dur­ham.

He was edu­cat­ed at Win­ches­ter, Coop­er’s Hill, and Exe­ter Col­lege, Ox­ford (BMus 1867).

He worked as a ci­vil en­gin­eer, es­pe­cial­ly in build­ing rail­roads in In­dia.

He is some­times con­fused with hymn writ­er Hen­ry Will­iams Bak­er (1821–1877).
