Biography

Bache was brought up at Worcester by relatives named Laugher, members of Thomas Belsham’s congregation. She was a niece of Reverend Timothy Laugher, of Hackney, and cousin to Joshua Tilt Bache.

She moved to Birmingham before 1791, for she had attended the ministry of Joseph Priestley. For many years she kept the Islington School, in conjunction with a half-sister, Miss Penn. Another half-sister, Anna Penn, married the Reverend Lant Carpenter, who published her hymn in 1812.
