Born: Ap­ril 16, 1793, Mar­tin, Lind­say, Lin­coln, Eng­land.

Died: Au­gust 29, 1827, Ab­ing­don, Vir­gin­ia.

Buried: His re­mains were re­port­ed moved in 1895 to the Sul­phur Springs Ce­me­te­ry, Bris­tol, Ten­nes­see.

Biography

A Me­tho­dist pas­tor, At­kins served in the Ohio Con­fer­ence, then trans­ferred to Knoxv­ille, Ten­nes­see, in 1818.

In 1826, he re­ceived an ap­point­ment to preach at Ab­ing­don Town.

Besides his min­is­ter­ial duties, he was in­volved with news­pa­pers.
