Atkins wrote sev­er­al songs, chants, an­thems, and the can­ta­ta Hymn of Faith, com­posed for the Wor­ces­ter three choirs fes­ti­val in 1905. He al­so ed­it­ed a num­ber of works, in­clud­ing Bach’s St. Mat­thew’s Pass­ion. He be­came or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter at Wor­ces­ter in 1897.
