November 30, 1767, Gävle, Sweden.

February 29, 1844.

Son of a poor bellows treader (for organs), he worked as a private tutor to pay for his own education. Sickness and economic worries followed him during his life. He was a pastor in Norrköping, then rector in Tuna and Stavby (near Uppsala), and was later appointed to a post in Simtuna and Altuna, also near Uppsala. Åström was one of the most learned rectors in Sweden, and participated in every important committee that dealt with church affairs at the time.
