Ole was the son of were Tol­lef Ar­ne­son and Mar­gre­te Ol­son (Ru­dring­en) San­den.

He served as principal of the public school at Spring Grove, Min­ne­so­ta (1876–79), then taught in Hat­ton, North Da­ko­ta. Later, he became manager of the book department of Skan­di­nav­en, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois.

He is remembered as the translator of many Nor­we­gian hymns and poems.
