Biography

Andersdatter was a Dane, pos­si­bly from Ma­ri­bo, Lol­land.

Her two hymns have a com­mon ori­gin, ex­pressed in dif­fer­ent lang­uage forms. In both ver­sions, the first let­ters of each line form the acros­tic Elle An­ders­dat­ter.

This has led some to be­lieve the hymn was writ­ten for her, ra­ther than by her.
