Biography

Hattie was the daugh­ter of Hen­ry Aus­tin Mc­Crack­en and Car­rie Lu­cret­ta Ad­ams, and wife of min­is­ter Clif­ton Jud­son Al­len.

She was edu­cat­ed at the Miss­iss­ip­pi Wo­men’s Col­lege (now the Miss­iss­ip­pi Uni­ver­si­ty for Wo­men), Co­lum­bus, Miss­iss­ip­pi (BS 1922), and the George Pea­bo­dy Col­lege for Teach­ers, Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see (MA 1928).

She lived in Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see; Harts­ville, South Ca­ro­li­na; and Win­ston-Sa­lem, North Ca­ro­li­na.

She ed­it­ed child­ren’s books for Broad­man Press (1945–47).

She taught in rur­al schools and at Bel­mont Col­lege, Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see (1959–61).
