Born: October 17, 1896, Columbus, Mississippi.
Hattie was the daughter of Henry Austin McCracken and Carrie Lucretta Adams, and wife of minister Clifton Judson Allen.
She was educated at the Mississippi Women’s College (now the Mississippi University for Women), Columbus, Mississippi (BS 1922), and the George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee (MA 1928).
She lived in Nashville, Tennessee; Hartsville, South Carolina; and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She edited children’s books for Broadman Press (1945–47).
She taught in rural schools and at Belmont College, Nashville, Tennessee (1959–61).
