Biography

Originally a Me­tho­dist preach­er, Al­ders­ley joined the Sal­va­tion Ar­my (SA) around 1879, serv­ing as a ser­geant at Keigh­ley, York­shire, where he sold earth­en­ware.

He moved to New Zea­land in 1884 and lived in Christ Church and Well­ing­ton.

Works

Largely house­bound due to se­vere arth­ri­tis, he wrote ex­ten­sive­ly. Sev­er­al of his songs ap­peared in the SA’s War Cry in 1883.
