He served as organist at churches in Twickenham and London, and also played the organ at Westminster Abbey. In 1916, he became the organist for Salisbury Cathedral.
He played the organ at the coronations of King Edward VII and King George V, and taught organ at the Royal College of Music. He had a number of accomplished students, including Edward Bairstow.
