Adriance attended Dartmouth College, Claremont, New Hampshire; Dartmouth publications list his residence as Poughkeepsie, New York. At Dartmouth, he served as Secretary for the Class of 1873, and belonged to Kappa Sigma Epsilon, the Zeta Chapter of Psi Upsilon, the Theological and Missionary Society, the Social Friends Club, the College Nines Ball Club, and the A. B. C. Club. He later attended Andover Theological Seminary, Newton Centre, Massachusetts, and Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey.

Adriance’s wife was Lizzie P. Whitcomb (1856–1930). His works include:
