Adriance was the husband of Liz­zie P. Whit­comb (1856–1930).

He attended Dart­mouth College, Clare­mont, New Hamp­shire; Dart­mouth publications list his residence as Pough­keep­sie, New York.

At Dart­mouth, he served as Secretary for the Class of 1873, and belonged to Kap­pa Sig­ma Ep­si­lon, the Ze­ta Chapter of Psi Up­si­lon, the Theological and Missionary Society, the Social Friends Club, the College Nines Ball Club, and the A. B. C. Club. He later attended An­do­ver Theological Seminary, New­ton Centre, Mas­sa­chu­setts, and Prince­ton Theological Seminary, Prince­ton, New Jer­sey.
