Biography

At age 10, Ad­cock joined the church choir and sang so­los at oc­ca­sion­al con­certs.

At age 16, he be­came an ush­er in a board­ing school in Spald­ing, Lin­coln­shire, and was ap­point­ed choir­mas­ter of the cha­pel and con­duc­tor of a cho­ral society.

He was choir­mas­ter at Cas­tle Gate Church in Not­ting­ham for 21 years.

Around 1858, he joined the mu­sic es­tab­lis­hment of Hen­ry Far­mer in Not­ting­ham, and rose to the po­si­tion of man­ag­er, a job he held un­til Farmer’s death in 1891.

Upon Farm­er’s re­tire­ment, he was ap­point­ed con­duc­tor of the Not­tin­gham Sac­red Har­mon­ic So­ci­ety, where he served 16 years.
