A Meth­od­ist minister, Ad­ams graduated from the Theological College in Rich­mond, Eng­land. In 1886, he went to New­foundland as a missionary, and served at Bur­geo, Top­sail, and St. John’s West. In 1891, he transferred to On­tar­io, where he was pastor at Hal­i­bur­ton (1891–93), St. Ola (1893–95), Dal­rym­ple (1895–97), Ivan­how (1897–99), Oro­no (1899–1901), Clare­mont (1901–03), Tam­worth (1903–05), Nor­wood (1905–09), Pen­e­tan­gui­she­ne (1909–12), Downs­view (1914–18), Don Mills (1918–20), Thorn­ton (1920–25) and Bee­ton (1925–28).
