A Methodist minister, Adams graduated from the Theological College in Richmond, England. In 1886, he went to Newfoundland as a missionary, and served at Burgeo, Topsail, and St. John’s West. In 1891, he transferred to Ontario, where he was pastor at Haliburton (1891-93), St. Ola (1893-95), Dalrymple (1895-97), Ivanhow (1897-99), Orono (1899-1901), Claremont (1901-03), Tamworth (1903-05), Norwood (1905-09), Penetanguishene (1909-12), Downsview (1914-18), Don Mills (1918-20), Thornton (1920-25) and Beeton (1925-28).
