Biography

Asa was the son of Ben­ja­min Abell and Ly­dia Thach­er. He mar­ried twice, to Jane Smith (Ap­ril 12, 1819), and Ju­lia Wil­cox (May 19, 1827).

A Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal pas­tor for 18 years, he was a pre­sid­ing el­der, and was elect­ed as a de­le­gate to the Ge­ne­ral Con­fer­ence four times.

In 1861, he trans­ferred to the Free Me­tho­dist Church, where he was chair­man of se­ver­al dis­tricts in the Ge­ne­see Con­fer­ence (New York) and a de­le­gate to the Free Me­tho­dist Ge­ne­ral Con­fer­ence three times.

He re­tired in 1873.
