Biography

Francis was the son of Jo­seph Hale Ab­bott and Fan­ny Ell­ing­wood Lar­com, and hus­band of Ka­tha­rine Fear­ing Lor­ing.

He was edu­cat­ed at the Bos­ton La­tin School, Har­vard Uni­ver­si­ty (1859, Phi Be­ta Kap­pa; PhD 1881), and the Mead­ville Theo­lo­gic­al School, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois (1863).
