Son of organist Wilhelm Oscar Söderberg, Wilhelm the younger studied at the Stockholm conservatory, passed the organist exam in 1867, and graduated in instrumental performance and orchestral conducting in 1870. He served as an organist in Stockholm (1871–73) & taught music in Karlshamn (1873). He taught until 1912, and continued playing the organ until his death. He was also a founding member of the Karl Hams music company in 1876, and was its first director, 1876–1911.
