Biography

Blackie was ed­u­cat­ed at Mar­is­chal Col­lege, Ab­er­deen, Scot­land, and the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Ed­in­burgh. Af­ter stu­dy­ing in Gö­t­ting­en, Ber­lin, and Rome, Black­ie be­came a law­yer in 1834.

In 1839, he be­came Pro­fess­or of Hu­man­i­ty at Mar­is­chal Col­lege; in 1841, Pro­fes­sor of Lat­in at Mar­is­chal; and in 1850 Pro­fes­sor of Greek at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Ed­in­burgh.
